Bed Wetting (Enuresis)
It is not uncommon for children to wet the bed, in the day or night, and is nothing to be embarrassed about.
If you feel sad about this, remember it’s not your fault, and talk to your parent(s) or carer(s) about it.
If this continues as you get older, you can always go with your parent(s) or carer(s) to your doctor for advice.
What is urine?
Your body soaks up liquids from your food and drink. This travels through your blood stream and then the kidneys filter out the waste – this is your wee.
Why do I wet the bed?
Everyone is different and there are different reasons for why you may have wet the bed. These include:
- Your bladder making more wee than it can hold
- If you wake up during the night you may turn around and go back to sleep when really you had to wee
- Having a bladder that can only hold a small amount of wee as it’s more active than usual.
What can you do about bed wetting?
- Drink most of your drinks like water or milk during the day time
- Don’t drink anything at least an hour before bed
- Have a wee right before you go to sleep.
- Avoid blackcurrant juices, fizzy drinks and coffee.
